Hawthorne Recreation Center

A new $2.2 million, 10,000 s.f. recreaion and community center with associated tot and junior playgrounds, basketball and tennis courts and seating areas. The building’s facade feature 1,000 handprint tiles made by neighborhood residents. The community’s involvement throughout the programming and design process, and the resulting “buy-in” contributed to the lack of vandalism during and after construction.
